Access To All Campaign
The Need
Currently, there is limited classroom computer access in
Godwin or Highland schools. Highland School has one
computer lab and six computers in the Media Center,
which is primarily used by the computer teacher.
Computer access for our children is basic and overdue.
An additional Elmo Projector with cart for Godwin School
would equalize the teacher sharing ratio
so that each grade level would have two Elmo Projectors
to share. The High School student-operated television
studio is currently using outdated and broken
broadcasting equipment that is 20 and 30 years old. Read
entire plan....
The Educational Value
COWs can convert any classroom into a temporary computer
lab. With the addition of six computers, the media
center at Highland would be transformed into a
mini-computer lab. Under the teachers’ direction, the
COWs could open up every classroom to the world of the
Internet as an instructional vehicle; the teachers could
engage the whole class with instructional CD programs
that present information in a captivating manner;
teachers could conduct writing exercises utilizing the
computer notebooks as word processors with the ability
to print the results immediately on the laser jet
printer; teachers could plan whole-class technology
lessons without relying on the restricted access to the
current computer lab; students could research topics,
create culminating projects and view informational
videos.
Overdue upgrades to the student-operated television
studio at Midland Park High School are critically
needed. The existing audio mixing board has missing
knobs and faders and several channels are no longer
active. The bridge to the entire community could be
improved if the broadcasting classes were given the
opportunity to create more relevant and technologically
exciting programming. The updated equipment would be
more user-friendly; therefore, more teachers would
utilize the television studio. The updated broadcasting
studio mixing board would allow for smoother
transitions, clearer graphics, and a more updated look
to live broadcasts.
Phases 2 and 3
A steering committee of representatives from MPPEF Board
of Trustees, Board of Education, administration, and
faculty are working together to develop Phases 2 and 3.
Phase 2 and 3 will be funded in the 2011 and 2012 spring
grant cycle, respectively. Teacher-generated classroom
grants will be funded, as usual, in the fall grant cycle
