Students to Science Grade 11
Students to Science (S2S) is a program for the 11th Grade
Physics Students to expose them to advanced scientific
principles and actual laboratory activities and equipment in
industry. The students will attend the “Build a Robot” program
and design and build a computer-controlled robot. The students
will demonstrate how the robot is used to perform the task
assigned to them. The objective is to introduce, motivate and
inspire students to pursue career opportunities in the fields of
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Foundational Fitness “Jungle
Gym” The fifth and sixth grade students will
be enhancing their fitness level at Highland Gym by using the
new Jungle Gym and Train Station strength training equipment.
The strength training stations will include straps as well as
resistance bands of varying resistance. The Jungle Gym will
allow students to perform exercises using an adjustable
percentage of their body weight. The Train Station is a
versatile training tool that allows teachers to train students
in functional movement patterns.
Hi Touch Hi Tech: Fun-O-Mena
Each third grade class will enjoy a 90 minute lesson involving
hands on science activities related to natural disasters
including: earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes and tornadoes. The
in-school science workshop will transform the third grade
classrooms into living laboratories. The goal of the program is
for students to become more actively involved in science.
Mobile Interwrite Pad
The high school math students will receive the benefit of Mobi
View, a hand-held interactive whiteboard that provides many
teaching and learning benefits through its interactive touch
display. Students can collaborate from their seats with Mobi
Learners to share their work with the class. The teacher can
navigate a lesson with the Mobi View touch screens, type with
the touch keypad and access CPS student response reports. The
Mobile Interwrite Pad will help the teacher: assess student
progress, make more efficient use of class time, and increase
student participation and understanding.
Student Response Pads
The high school students will be using 28 new student response
pads. Students will key their answers into the handheld CPS
(Computer Performance System) response pads and the answer will
be delivered immediately to their teacher. The teacher will know
where the students need extra attention at the moment of
instruction. CPS encourages greater student involvement and
engagement.
Guided
Reading Leveled Readers The first grade class
will receive four sets of leveled readers to support the new
reading series. Each set contains 60 books that will meet
students’ independent reading levels. The supplemental, leveled
readers will provide a step-by-step, book-by-book program that
guides children through the early stages of reading. The guided
readers will help teachers evaluate student growth and promote
independent reading.
BrainPopJr.com A second grade class will be
receiving a one year subscription to the BrainPopJr website. The
website features short interactive videos that will increase
student engagement as well as improve mastery of skills and use
of technology. The videos can be viewed as a whole class or
one-on-one. Each video is followed by an assessment quiz and
other enrichment activities.
